THE NATIONAL MUSEUM:
Situated on the botanical gardens, is the traditional building erected in 1940; a modern contemporary structure constructed in 1963. It houses many important archaeological collections especially the fossil discoveries of the famous ZINJANTHROPUS BOSEI, dating back some 1,750,000 years. The museum has permanent exhibitions on Human Evolution, History of Tanzania, Marine Biology and Ethnography.
MNAZI MOJA PARK (PASS BY):
This is near Jamhuri and Uhuru Streets. On one side is seen the Uhuru Torch Monument erected to symbolize the Freedom Torch placed on the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro upon Tanzania’s attainment of Independence. On the other side of the park is the Republic Fountain which commemorated the foundation of the republic in 1962.
FERRY OR MAGOGONI FISH MARKET:
This is an open air market where all sorts of fish and sea shells are sold, also fruits, and vegetables. The market is heavily congested with all kinds of people going about their chores.
ASKARI MONUMENT (PASS BY):
A statue erected in memory of soldiers who fell during WWI.
TINGA TINGA COOPERATIVE CENTRE, (MOROGORO STORES):
Located in the prime residential area of the city, in Oysterbay, the center sells the famous local paintings called “Tinga Tinga”, and other handcrafts items. There is a small factory for the paintings.
